Prayers are needed for the victims of the earthquake. Pray for enough money, food, water, tents, first aid, and tools to be provided. February 19, 2010. "A massive earthquake struck Haiti just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 12, about 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, the country's capital. The quake was the worst in the region in more than 200 years. A study by the Inter-American Development Bank estimates that the cost could be between $7.2 billion to $13.2 billion, based on a death toll from 200,000 to 250,000." "Huge swaths of the capital, Port-au-Prince, lay in ruins, and thousands of people lay trapped or dead in the rubble of government buildings, foreign aid offices and shantytowns. Schools, hospitals and a prison collapsed. Sixteen United Nations peacekeepers were killed and at least 140 United Nations workers were missing, including the chief of its mission, Hédi Annabi. The city's archbishop, Msgr. Joseph Serge Miot, was found dead in the rubble of the Port-au-Prince cathedral." http://www.nytimes.com/info/haiti-earthquake-2010/ February 22, 2010. "More than a month after the earthquake, thousands of new amputees are facing the bracing reality of living with disabilities in a shattered country whose terrain and culture have never been hospitable to the disabled." http://www.nytimes.com/info/haiti-earthquake-2010/ It may be noted that if Christians in the counties in Texas noted above were to increase their giving to churches to an average of 10%, and make sure that the new money goes out for missions, these Christians could support their churches' work in Haiti with an additional $485.7 million per year, as well as increase other mission outreach.
